Community Development – Building Stronger Latino Neighborhoods
Thursday, May 24th, 2012Community development is a crucial area of focus for Latino-focused non-profit organizations, and one that Valoramás actively supports through our $150,000 Founders’ Grants Initiative in Chicago and Houston. There’s only a couple more days to vote, so be sure to make your voice heard in the community!
Improving different aspects of local communities is extremely important. We all want to feel safe in our neighborhoods, we want our children to grow up in positive environments and we want them to have opportunities to find their own purpose in life.
We are excited that Red Mexicana de Líderes y Organizaciones Migrantes, Enlace Chicago and the National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO) Leadership Institute are three of our partners working on positive community development. Each is a part of our $150,000 Valoramás Founders’ Grants Initiative.
These three organizations are focused on :
- community development,
- empowering people, and
- teaching individuals the skills necessary to make positive changes in their neighborhoods.
Effective community development seeks to empower individuals and groups of people by providing them with the skills they need to create change in their own communities.

Red Mexicana de Líderes y Organizaciones Migrantes serves as an alliance between leaders and organizations of the Mexican immigrant community in the U. S. The organization is based in Chicago, IL.
