Girl in Progress Starring Eva Mendes

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Girl in Progress, a new film about family, growing up and the challenges of motherhood, opens in theaters on Mother’s Day weekend (Friday, May 11th).

Eva Mendes plays Grace, a single Latina mom struggling to grow up herself while providing for her daughter, Ansiedad. Girl in Progress exposes the common cycles that are carried down in families.

The film addresses the question whose responsibility is it to break the cycle and are we willing to move beyond the circumstances we inherited?

Girl in Progress Stars:

Eva Mendes

Eva is a Cuban-American actress and model.  She was born in Miami, and is the youngest of 5 children. Eva was a marketing major at California State University Northridge, near Los Angeles, when she dropped out to pursue acting. Eva is an actress, supermodel, Revlon spokesperson, and the creator of a home decor line, Vida, sold exclusively at Macy’s. Cierra is a 17-year-old  Houston native. She is best known from her role on the Disney show ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.’ The young Latina will join the cast of the ABC hit ‘Secret Life of an American Teenager’ as Kathy, a pregnant teenager living with her grandmother and struggling with the decision of putting her unborn child up for adoption.

In Girl in Progress Cierra plays Ansiedad, a teenage girl who is struggling with growing up. When her English teacher talks about the classic coming-of-age stories, Ansiedad is inspired to become an adult without her mom. With her best friend’s help she is trying to speed up her development.

Derbez is well known to audiences throughout Mexico, Latin America and the United States via his numerous television comedies for Mexico’s Televisa network (seen in the United States on Univision).  He is now crossing over into film and more English-language roles, including a part in the new Rob Schneider comedy on CBS.
