MundoFox – new Spanish language TV channel – launches this AugustWednesday, June 20th, 2012
The Spanish speaking population in the U.S. will have another option to watch on TV – MundoFox is debuting this August.
The new channel will try to capture more men by showing more action and drama TV series. MundoFox’s goal is to show: “Latino Entertainment, American Attitude.” Existing Spanish-language TV networks like Univision and Telemundo have traditionally focused more on Latinas with their prime-time telenovela programming.
MundoFox’s summer programming will include:
- Series featuring season two of “El Capo,” a teleseries about a powerful drug lord in Colombia, and “Corazones Blindados” (Armored Hearts), a romantic drama about a policewoman whose husband was kidnapped.
- Original weekly series in Spanish, among these are: second season of “Kdabra,” which follows a magician detective, and “Tiempo Final,” in which characters face life-changing situations.
- Fox TV series such as “Bones” and Fox movies dubbed into Spanish.
- A Spanish-language version of the game show “Minute to Win It,” with popular Mexican presenter Marco Antonio Regil hosting.
This new Spanish language TV channel was created by a joint venture between Fox International Channels (FIC), News Corporation’s international multi-media business, and RCN, the leading Latin American television network and production company. MundoFox will be available in more than 50% of U.S. households and is aiming to increase its coverage to 75%.
Demand for high-quality Spanish-language programming increases
“If something convinced us that we needed to get in this market, it was the 2010 census. It took us over the edge. When we saw that 50% of the population growth came from Latinos… we realized we couldn’t afford to not be part of this advertising marketplace.”, said Fox International Channels CEO Hernán López in an interview with Media Moves.
MundoFox is the newest channel in the Fox Hispanic Media that also includes:
FOX DEPORTES - channel that covers exclusively live sports events such as: UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, Copa Santander Libertadores, Copa Bridgestone Sudamericana, Major League Baseball, Golden Boy Promotions Boxing and UFChome.
UTILÍSIMA – Latina-targeted entertainment channel. UTILÍSIMA is the fastest-growing Spanish-language cable network among women 25 and older. Current programming features home and cooking shows, among others.
NATGEO MUNDO – a nonfiction entertainment network for U.S. Hispanic. NATGEO MUNDO presents programing from National Geographic Channel in Latin America that has never aired in the U.S. as well as new original series.
MundoFox’s slogan is that it will be “Americano Como Tú”.
