Welcome to Plaza Sésamo!

Sesame Street is known and loved all over the world, especially with my extended family. I have two nephews and three nieces and they all love Plaza Sésamo, as it is known in Spanish.
My youngest niece – little Rosa, who is 18 months old – is potty training, so my sister in-law plays the DVD “Elmo Va Al Baño” (“Elmo Potty Time” in English) for her to reinforce her potty training lessons. Little Rosa loves it! She asks all the time whether she can watch it and now her whole family knows all of Elmo’s songs by heart. And Rosa is also learning English and Spanish at the same time.
Sesame Street was first broadcast in 1972, so I remember watching Plaza Sésamo growing up. My favorite character was Serapio Montoya (Big Bird in the English version). Later his name was changed to Aberaldo Montoya.
It’s incredible that Sesame Street has aired in over 120 countries, making it the most widely viewed children’s series in the world. Children love to watch the show and their parents appreciate the educational value of Sesame Street, no matter the language.
Sesame Street even recently debuted in Afghanistan. The Afghani version –“Baghch-e-Simsim” contains 13 locally produced live action films depicting the traditions, culture and other aspects of urban and rural life in Afghanistan.
The show has won more Grammy and Emmy awards than any other children’s TV show in history.
When you’re looking for that perfect gift for the pint-sized person in your life, you can’t go wrong with Sesame Street. I guarantee that the little one will love it!
